ABSTRACT
In this study an assessment of air quality
along the transport corridor of Kaduna
metropolis was carried out with significant
results. Data for the work were collected
using instruments for measuring air quality,
that is, commercial samplers. Three gases
were actually collected from ten sample
locations. The air samples were analysed
statistically using the mean of the
distribution, and descriptively interpreted.
In this study, it was revealed that air quality
vary across the sample points, for instance,
reference to the grand mean line 0.2221 for
SO2 at two major intersection points of
Leventis and Stadium varies, higher value in
the mornings and lower values in the
evenings, above and below the grand mean,
respectively. For CO21308 grand mean
point,four locations had higher values above
the Grand Mean (GM) point and lower
values below the grand mean are six
locations. For Carbon monoxide levels,
seven locations had higher values above the
grand mean of 22.25 while three locations
had lower values below the grand mean.
Therefore, all areas with low level of carbon
monoxide and carbon dioxide were
associated with thick vegetation as against
areas of scanty vegetation with high levels of
CO and CO2. It was thus recommended that
possible planting of trees and horticultural
activities along the transport corridors of
Kaduna metropolis should be carried out in
order to reduce the presence of pollutants
and degraded air.
